Highway Civil Works

Kanon Consulting is one of the leading bridge design offices in Greece.
The office has dealt with all types of motorway and railway bridge construction (with the exception of cable stayed bridges), including balanced cantilever and incremental launching construction.
Being active in a country with high seismicity, Kanon Consulting has gained significant experience in seismic design of bridges including modern seismic isolation methods, and has designed all type of bridge foundations from footings, to piles, to caissons.

 

ORGANIZATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF CRETE S.A.
Completition of Afchin Agkathias – Chamezi - Siteia Section with an approximate length of 3.8km

CONSTRUCTION: ERGO S.A. – ERGODOMI S.A. – KASTOR S.A. J/V

STRUCTURAL DESIGN: KANON CONSULTING (2014-)

The most important structure along the Afchin Agkathias – Sitia section in Crete was the Chamezi bridge curved in plan, with a total length of over 840.0m and twenty one spans. As the initial Contractor had not completed the project, the J/V of ERGO S.A., ERGODOMI S.A. and KASTOR S.A. was assigned the construction of the remaining A2 abutment, the completion of the M19 & M20 piers and the construction of the superstructure between pier M10 and abutment A2.

Tripolis - Vytina - Ancient Olympia Motorway - Section: Deviation of Lagadia

STRUCTURAL DESIGN: KANON CONSULTING – ANODOS (2012)

The section of Lagadia deviation of Tripolis-Vytina-Ancient Olympia Motorway, which is approximately 20km long, runs mostly through mountainous terrain and is comprised of multiple highway civil works. The major structures of this particular section are two tunnels, 350m and 250m long, nine bridges and a variety of minor structures such as culverts and retaining structures.

CONSTRUCTION: HOCHTIEF CONSTRUCTION AG – AKTOR S.A.2009 -
DESIGN: KANON CONSULTING (2009-2011, 2013 - )

The scope of work included the final design and construction drawings for a substantial number of highway structures comprising mostly underpasses, retaining walls and overpasses. The key aspect of all structures was the fact that their proximity to the existing motorway, which ought to remain operable at all times, imposed the construction in stages leading in an extensive use of retaining structures.

 

 

ERGOSE S.A. - New double high speed railway line in section Lianokladi-Domokos at chainage 13+500 - 25+000 - Railway Bridges ΣΓ12, ΣΓ13, ΣΓ14, ΣΓ15, ΣΓ16

Design: ΚANON CONSULTING 80%, PREZA-PILITSIS & PRTNS 20% (2006)

A series of five railway bridges was currently being constructed on section Lianokladi-Domokos of the new double high-speed railway line. A common characteristic of all of these bridges is the installation of a seismic isolation system due to the high seismicity of the area and the active seismic faults in the vicinity.

 

EGNATIA ODOS S.A. - Section Lefkopetra - Kouloura / Bridges Γ1, Γ2

Pictured are two similar adjacent bridges at section ‘Leukopetra - Kouloura’ of Egnatia Highway. Each one of bridges Γ1 and Γ2 consisted of two independent branches - one for each direction of traffic - and was curved in plan.

 

OSE S.A. - Deviation of the City of Korinth - High speed railway line - Railway bridge over the Corinth Isthmus at chainage 89+298.84

Design: ODOMECHANIKI Ltd - KANON CONSULTING (2002-2003)
As pictured below, the railway bridge comprised a continuous superstructure with a total length of 230.0m. The bridge connected the two sides of the Corinth Isthmus, allowing a free height of 52.0m for the passage of vessels. Our firm was responsible for designing the superstructure, while the design of the foundation and piers was the subject of a separate, specialized study.

 

MINISTRY OF P.W. & E, PATHE Motorway - Section: Deviation of Kamena Vourla

Design: KANON CONSULTING (2004-2005)
The section of Kamena Vourla deviation of PATHE Motorway, between the exit of the tunnel of Knimida to Skarfia is approximately 9km long section and is comprised of multiple highway civil works such as bridges, underpasses, pile retaining walls, etc.
The major structures of this particular section were made up of a series of four, Cut & Cover tunnels. As these tunnels were constructed near residential areas, achored pile walls with a depth of excavation exceeding 15.0m in certain areas had to be designed.

 

EGNATIA ODOS S.A. - Section Polymylos-Leykopetra - Bridge Γ8 at chainage 24.0+943.04

Structural Design: KANON CONSULTING (2001)

This particular bridge consists of two independent branches, one for each direction of traffic. The total deck width measured 13.60m: 11.0m for the road surface and 2.60m for the two sidewalks.

 

EGNATIA ODOS S.A. - Section 1.1.7 - Bridge of Mesobounio at chainage 11.0+220.0

Structural Design: DENCO S.A. - KANON CONSULTING (1999-2000)

The Mesobounio bridge consisted of two independent branches, one for each direction of traffic. The total deck width was 12.95m: 11.0m for the road surface and 1.95m for the two sidewalks, with a marked 65cm gap between the two bridge branches.

EGNATIA ODOS S.A. - Section: Kavala Deviation

Project Budget: 16.650.000 €

Design: KANON CONSULTING (1997-1998)

This section was the last of three parts of the Egnatia Odos highway built for the deviation of the city of Kavala. It included a multitude of technical works, the most important of which were a Cut & Cover tunnel 300.0m long, three bridges 70.0 to 100.0m long, six underpasses, and fourteen small structures.
